Ways to Whiten Your Teeth from the Comfort of Your Own Home
In this day and age, having a bright smile is just as important as having the right outfit, or the perfect hair style. A bright smile can help boost a person's self confidence, and confidence can make a huge difference in a person's day. Unfortunately, it is not always easy to keep a nice white smile all the time.
Various things can affect the color of a person's teeth, from their eating habits to their hygiene habits. Coffee tends to discolor teeth, as do smoking habits and some eating habits. While some people have an addiction to coffee and cigarettes that is hard to kick, good brushing habits can help slow down the coloration process, but that is not always enough. In the meantime, whitening kits do cost a pretty penny; fortunately, there are other ways to go about whitening your smile without having to break the bank in the process.
Lemon Juice and Table Salt
While many people feel that this is a myth, there is some truth to the old-school whitening remedy of lemon juice and table salt. Mixing lemon juice and table salt into a sort of paste is a rather nasty home whitening solution, but it is a rather effective one. While it certainly doesn't stack up to some of the other whitening solutions out there, it will certainly do as a quick solution and it is fairly inexpensive to implement.
Baking Soda
An old favorite, baking soda always has been a great home whitening remedy. There are many people out there that swear by the baking soda paste whitening solution, and it can be used to make toothpaste or added to the toothpaste that you already use. Baking soda and water as a rinse is also effective for whitening, used to rinse the mouth before you brush your teeth.
Baking Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide
Some people like to mix the baking soda solution with hydrogen peroxide; while this is an extremely effective home whitening solution; it is not the safest and should never be used with children. This is because hydrogen peroxide can be fatal if swallowed; while adults are able to take care not to swallow the solution, children do not always have such self control. In the event that hydrogen peroxide is swallowed, be sure to drink as much water as possible and contact your doctor promptly; the water should dilute the solution, but medical advice is always encouraged.
